original 71 Cuda This is a 1971 Plymouth 'Cuda convertible, 340 CI owned by Alden Zimlich. These first 5 pictures show the original condition on arrival for its ground up restoration . The last photo in this group shows some of the new and original parts that will be used. original 71 Cuda

unibody construction This car is of unibody construction so the proper restoration of the rocker panels is very important. The first 3 photos in this group of 6 show the rocker panels being restored. The fourth picture in this group shows the heavy steel beam inside of the Cuda convertible rocker panels. It has been de-rusted and tin coated for long life. The next photo shows the subframe mounted in our frame rack to guarantee frame squareness. The last photo in this group shows the temporary fitting of the new floor pans. rocker panel

floor pan The first photo, top left, shows the fitting of the convertible reinforcing to the floor pan. The photo top right shows the reinforcing plate welded in place. The last 4 photos in this group of 6 show the repairs made to the lower cowl at the rocker panel. reinforcing plate welded

The photo top left shows the cowl being fitted to the subframe. The photo top right shows the cowl and the firewall being spot welded together to match the factory look. The bottom left photo in this group shows the cowl and firewall in place. The next photo shows the repair and welding of the core support. The last 2 photos in this group show the front inner fenders clamped in position and ready for welding.
The top left photo in this group of 6 pictures shows the inner fenders welded in position. The photo top right shows the temporary mockup of the front sheet metal to check the fit and alignment. The bottom left photo shows the last of the structural welding on the front of the body. The next photo shows that all the gaps are satisfactory and ready for the next steps. The next photo shows the view of the rear of the car being assembled and the convertible top irons being fitted.

These last 2 photos show our work is temporarily done and the car is going back home to have the drive train and suspension fitted by the owner.
